VPI heritage lime renders are designed for the renovation and restoration of existing façades. The range includes lime finishing coats for creating the final decorative surface, together with a fibre-reinforced intermediate coat for preparing suitable painted or previously rendered backgrounds.
These products can be used when restoring older properties, refurbishing weathered elevations or introducing a traditional-looking finish to a compatible masonry substrate. The correct system will depend on the existing surface, its condition and whether previous coatings are being retained.
The finishing coat should be selected according to the required texture, colour and appearance. The condition of the existing façade will determine whether a dedicated renovation base coat such as RenoPass Inter is required beforehand.
A finishing render should not be relied upon to correct substantial hollows, unstable backgrounds or widespread cracking. These issues need to be addressed during preparation and base-coat application.
For heritage and conservation work, always check whether planning approval, listed-building consent or a particular material specification is required. Product compatibility, preparation and application should follow the current VPI technical guidance.
