Bauer Base Coats for Lightweight Block / High Suction Backgrounds
Lightweight blocks and absorbent mineral masonry require careful preparation before rendering. These backgrounds can remove moisture from wet materials rapidly, potentially reducing working time and affecting adhesion, curing and the consistency of the finished render.
This category brings together Bauer products used at different stages of preparing and reinforcing suitable high-suction backgrounds. It includes a quartz-containing primer for absorbent mineral surfaces, a premixed base-coat mortar and alkali-resistant glass-fibre mesh for reinforcement.
Products within the range include:
- Bauer Kapagrip Malta Uno: A synthetic-resin and quartz-sand primer for absorbent mineral surfaces.
- Bauer Malta Plast 1000: A premixed plaster mortar for suitable solid internal and external backgrounds.
- Bauer Mesh 160: A coated glass-fibre mesh for full or localised reinforcement within compatible mortar systems.
Depending on the system specification, these products can help:

The substrate must be sound, clean and free from dust, salts, loose material and other contaminants. Confirm the block type and suction level before selecting a primer or base coat, as not every lightweight block requires the same preparation.
Bauer products should be used as part of a compatible specified system. Check the relevant technical data sheets for priming, mixing, thickness, mesh positioning and curing requirements. Where a system warranty is required, confirm the approved products and installer conditions before work begins.
High-strength fiberglass mesh with a protective coating of special polymers, highly resistant to alkaline environments. Essential for external thermal insulation systems as well as for total or partial reinforcement of sealants (e.g. epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic resins and cement mortar and lime).
