Fassa Base Coats for Dubbing / Brickwork / Painted Finishes
Fassa Base Coats for Dubbing / Brickwork / Painted Finishes
Fassa Bortolo base coats provide practical solutions for dubbing out uneven masonry, levelling brickwork and preparing suitable surfaces for decorative finishes or paint. The range includes lime-and-cement base coats, fibre-reinforced products, one-coat render and reinforcing mesh for internal and external projects.
Dubbing out helps correct variations in the substrate before the main render system is applied. This creates a more even background, supports consistent application thickness and reduces the need to compensate for deep joints or irregular masonry within the finishing coat.
Products in This Range
Fassa KC1 Base Coat – A dry mortar manufactured from hydrated lime, Portland cement, graded sands and additives designed to improve workability and adhesion.
Fassa KD2 Base Coat – A fibre-reinforced lime-and-cement base-coat plaster for internal and external applications.
Fassa KI7 Base Coat – A fibre-reinforced lime-and-cement plaster with water-repellent properties, suitable for interior and exterior work.
Fassa MS20.2 One Coat Render Mix – A cementitious masonry mortar and plaster/render for internal and external projects.
Fassanet 160 Reinforcing Mesh – An alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh used to reinforce compatible render systems.
Typical Applications
Products within this category can be used for:
Dubbing out uneven or irregular masonry
Levelling brick and blockwork backgrounds
Creating a base for compatible Fassa finishes
Producing suitable surfaces for subsequent painting
Reinforcing areas at greater risk of cracking
Internal and external rendering projects
Preparing the Background
Brickwork and masonry should be sound, stable and free from dust, loose mortar, salts, organic growth and other contamination. Deep joints, damaged areas and substantial variations in the surface should be assessed before application.
Highly absorbent, smooth or mixed backgrounds may require additional preparation to regulate suction or improve adhesion. The correct treatment should be selected according to the substrate and the intended finishing system.
Where reinforcing mesh is required, it should be embedded within the appropriate wet base coat with the specified overlaps. Always follow the relevant Fassa Bortolo technical data sheets for substrate suitability, application thicknesses, curing periods and finishing requirements.
