Baumit Base Coats for High Density Block / Brick / Concrete

Prepare suitable dense masonry backgrounds for a Baumit render finish with compatible base-coat and reinforcement products. High-density block, engineering brick and concrete often have lower suction than lightweight masonry, meaning the render has less texture and absorption to assist its bond.

This category includes Baumit KZP 65, a general-purpose lime-cement render for manual or machine application, and Baumit StarTex Fine mesh for reinforcing compatible adhesive and levelling coats.

Low suction does not automatically mean a background is ready to render. Smooth concrete, dense brick and surfaces containing release agents may need mechanical preparation or a compatible bonding treatment that is not currently listed within this category.

Before application, inspect the background and remove dust, salts, loose material, oil, mould-release residue and other contaminants. Confirm the required preparation, base-coat thickness and reinforcement specification using the relevant Baumit technical data and the intended top-coat system.

Where reinforcement is specified, embed Baumit StarTex Fine within the appropriate coat rather than fixing it directly to the substrate. Maintain the required overlaps and position the mesh within the render layer according to Baumit guidance.
