Sika Parex Heritage Lime Renders

Sika Parex heritage lime renders are designed for the repair, protection and decoration of traditional masonry and suitable new-build façades. The range includes hydraulic lime base coats, repointing and bedding mortars, together with through-coloured decorative finishes.

Lime-based systems are particularly useful where the wall needs to manage moisture through a vapour-permeable construction. The chosen product should remain compatible with the masonry, existing mortar and any surviving historic render.

Products in This Range

  • Parex Parexal – A hydraulic lime, through-coloured render developed for protecting and decorating façades on old and new buildings.
  • Parex Parlumiere Clair – A hydraulic lime restoration base coat that can also be used as a repointing and bedding mortar.
  • Parex Parlumiere Fin – A through-coloured decorative render with a fine granular matrix for a more refined surface finish.

Typical Applications

Products in this range may be used for:

  • Renovating traditional lime-rendered façades
  • Rendering suitable brick and stone masonry
  • Repointing and bedding masonry
  • Repairing compatible existing lime render
  • Protecting historic and period properties
  • Creating through-coloured lime finishes
  • Selected new-build projects requiring lime render

Why Use a Lime Render?

Traditional masonry was often constructed using relatively soft, vapour-permeable materials. An excessively dense or impermeable coating can restrict drying and trap moisture within the wall.

A correctly specified lime-render system can allow moisture vapour to move through the construction while providing weather protection. Its properties can also make it more sympathetic to the natural movement of older masonry than an unsuitable hard cement-rich render.

Preparing Traditional Masonry

The condition of the building should be assessed before work begins. Remove defective render, loose mortar, cement-based repairs and incompatible coatings where required. Masonry should be sound and free from salts, organic growth and contamination.

Repairs must use materials compatible with the original wall. Highly absorbent backgrounds may require controlled dampening, while very smooth or mixed masonry can require additional preparation.

Existing dampness should be investigated rather than concealed beneath new render.

Choosing Base and Finishing Coats

Parlumiere Clair can provide the restoration base layer and may also be used for compatible repointing or bedding work. Parexal and Parlumiere Fin offer through-coloured decorative options, with Parlumiere Fin producing the finer finish.

Colour and texture samples should be approved before completing larger elevations, particularly on listed buildings or conservation projects. Planning permission or consent from the relevant conservation authority may also be required.

Always follow current Sika Parex technical specifications for substrate compatibility, coat thickness, curing, weather protection and finishing methods.
